Random number generator

Draw one number or a whole set from any range you choose, for raffles, games, seating plans or random samples.

How to use it

  1. Enter a "Minimum" and a "Maximum".
  2. Set "How many" numbers you want, from 1 to 1,000.
  3. Keep "No duplicates" on (the default) or turn it off to allow repeats, and turn on "Sort from low to high" for ordered results.
  4. Click "Generate", then "Copy" to paste the results elsewhere.

What it does

  • Any whole-number range

Use whole numbers from -1,000,000,000 to 1,000,000,000, negative numbers included.

  • Up to 1,000 at once

Draw a single number or a list of up to 1,000 in one go.

  • No duplicates

On by default, so every number in the result is different, as in a raffle or lottery draw.

  • Sorted results

"Sort from low to high" puts the numbers in ascending order, which makes long lists easier to check.

  • Cryptographic randomness

Numbers come from the cryptographic random number generator built into your browser.

  • Copy in one click

Copy the results to paste into a spreadsheet, a chat or a document.

Good to know

Typical uses include drawing raffle winners by ticket number, picking a random page or question, assigning seats or groups, choosing a sample of rows from a spreadsheet, and rolling dice for a board game by setting the range to 1 to 6.

"No duplicates", which is on by default, works like drawing numbered balls from a bag: once a number is drawn, it can't come up again in the same set. That also means you can't ask for more numbers than the range contains, so 1 to 10 gives at most ten different numbers. Turn it off when repeats are fine, such as several independent dice rolls.

Questions and answers

How do I pick a random number between 1 and 100?

Enter 1 as the "Minimum" and 100 as the "Maximum", set "How many" to 1 and click "Generate".

Can I generate numbers without repeats?

Yes. "No duplicates" is on by default, so every number in the result is different. The range must contain at least as many numbers as you ask for.

How random are the numbers?

They come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, which is designed to be unpredictable, so it's well suited to fair draws.

Can I use negative numbers?

Yes. Any whole numbers from -1,000,000,000 to 1,000,000,000 work, so a range like -50 to 50 is fine.

How do I copy the results?

Click "Copy" below the numbers to copy them all, then paste them wherever you need them.
